Simply seeing Bush's name with the Presidental seal is enough to depress. But as loathe as I am to ever say anything good about him, you can't really claim he isn't loyal. The problem is that he doesn't bestow his loyality on us or the good of the country as a whole, so his loyality actually hurts us on a daily basis.

The very idea that we *have* a "Loyalty Day", never mind W proclaiming it, gives me a vaguely queasy feeling.

But then, lots of things about this administration inspire that reaction in me.

It was originally established in 1958 under President Eisenhower by the enactment (by congress) of 36 U.S.C. § 115.

And by the way, the sitting president, whoever it might be, is requested by said statute to:

(c) Proclamation.— The President is requested to issue a proclamation—
(1) calling on United States Government officials to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on Loyalty Day; and
(2) inviting the people of the United States to observe Loyalty Day with appropriate ceremonies in schools and other suitable places.

But he didn't mean them. He was only going through the motions out of respect for tradition. I think I did look at both links. I find the notion of Laura and Condi worshipping the Chenney pole rather droll.

Yes, I read the article.

Excuse me if I don't enthuse over McCarthy era 'anti-communist' propaganda still being propagated today.

Okay, you're excused.
I just thought I'd throw some data out there.
How you react to seeing the data points is your own business.
