"The Andromeda Strain" on A&E

A&E is re-making The Andromeda Strain as a two part mini-series
starting Memorial Day (26 May) at 9PM EDT, 8PM CDT.

It's 'presented by Ridley and Tony Scott', so its got potential.

I like the original movie. Haven't read the book, so no idea how close the movie is to the book. Heard anything about this version?

It has a strong cast, IMHO, which I find a stronger rec than the involvement of Tony and Ridley Scott but that's me. I have a screener here of the whole thing, but haven't watched it yet.

Will be covering it at TVPicks.net of course.

It's recently been advertised with some behind the scenes shots and interviews in the FirstLook digital preshow in theatres. I think it looks pretty interesting but it's since teen years that I read the book and saw the original movie, so I'm not up to making comparisons.

I've resigned myself to reviewing it on its own merits since I never read the book and I don't think I even ever saw the whole movie. But hey-- that can be a good thing, some people will just want to know if it's entertaining or not and won't care what kind of adaptation it is, how it compares, etc.

(The obsessive in me feels like I should read and watch the old stuff, but I just don't have the time).

I saw a trailer for this in a movie theater.
It looked AWFUL. Then again, I am a big fan of the original movie. I thought it stayed reasonably faithful to the book. The trailer made it clear that that is NOT a priority for the present version.
