We have a diagnosis on Ziggy

It's not Addison's. It's third-degree {something something} - I think the second word was arrhythmia?

Basically, his nerves are not communicating well enough with his heart to tell it to fire.

The treatment is a pacemaker. That's not in the cards. The veterinary cardiologist gives him maybe a month left to live.

Oh no, I'm so very sorry to hear that. He is such a complete honey of a dog.

Yeah, I know about that sort of choice; the vet offered therapy for Ben's cancer - I don't recall whether it was chemo or radiation - but I couldn't see doing that to a dog. Hard enough on a human, who can at least know why it's happening.

My deepest sympathies.

Oh crap. I'm sorry, hon. I know you'll make it the best month it can be.

It hurts. I know it hurts.

But it happens sooner or later that our friends, whether furry or bipedal, will be with us no more, or that we will no longer be with them.
