I'm very sorry to hear about this. I remember that Rex ate very little during the last weeks of his life, and when a beagle isn't eating, you know the situation is serious.
As to Ziggy, it really sounds like the time has come to let him go. You have my sympathy, and at least you'll be able to remember him as he was.
