An interesting morning event
Apr. 26th, 2004 03:04 pmI went to let the dogs out this morning, and was surprised by the animal about 8' away from my back door (but in the next door neighbor's yard).
I surprised a wild turkey hen. I couldn't believe it - I called for Irene (who, wonder of wonders, just happened to be up and going out the door with me this morning!), who identified it as a hen instead of a tom.
I live in an urban mostly-single-family-housing environment. I a long way from anything I think of as "wild". Minnehaha Creek at about 3 miles south is the closest that I can think of. I see squirrels pretty frequently, and the occasional rabbit. But a full-grown wild turkey?
I'm going to be doing that for the next day or two - "a full-grown wild turkey?!?!"
