Found on a friend's LJ (she's in Georgia) - how many of my local (i.e., in the Twin Cities) friends already knew about this program?

The GLBT Host Home Program offers adults in the community the opportunity to open their homes to homeless queer youth. Young people needing homes are connected to adults with extra bedrooms. It’s really that easy!

Hosts are trained and provided ongoing support while youth live with them for 6 – 12 months. Hosts are invited to monthly support and training meetings and have regular contact with the Host Home Program Manager. Hosts receive no financial compensation.

While living in host homes, youth have the chance to work toward self-sufficiency, go to school and work without having to worry about food and shelter. Youth move from host homes into their own apartments, dorm rooms or other permanent housing.

Call Anne Supplee, Host Home Program Manager, for more details, supplee@youthlinkmn.org or 612-252-1206.

Turkey Day

Off to sister Monica's for the big meal. We brought veggies - this turned into Brocolli Normandy, green bean casserole, celery w/ stuffings (peanut butter, raisins, craisins, port wine cheddar cheese, sour cream chives & onion topping), pickled brussel sprouts, pickled herring, and five pound Hershey bar.

Monica & Ed provided turkey, ham, gravy, cranberry sauce, green & black olives, pickles, radishes, and mashed potatoes. Kieran and Patty provided six pies - blueberry, apple, pumpkin. Didi and Eddy brought candied yams, hot cross buns, corn meal muffins, and pumpkin bars.

28 people. I greeted daughter Monica & Flavin with cheery politeness - I was ignored. They said about two or three words each to Irene - they did not discuss the whole thing in my hearing.

Irene & I and a bunch of the kids played Apples to Apples. There was some doubt starting in on it, but much fun was had by all participants, and the number of players kept growing. The non-playing adults all commented that it certainly sounded like they were having fun after I dropped out.

We brought home the leftovers for making more Brocolli Normandy and another round of green been casserole, about a third of the pickled herring, some of the celery stuffing, about half the Hershey bar, and very little of the pickled brussel sprouts. We also got some pie.

Had lots of fun. Headed for bed shortly.
