There's a vaguely similar story from (I believe) the 50's or 60's. Earth gets involved in an interstellar war between several (four? five?) races - one bad race, everyone else is nice guys. The nice guys are either holding their own or just barely winning. All the races except Earth have this cultural bias that says 'if you're captured in battle, you're dead' - kind of like some of the more extreme Japanese ideals I've heard of.

This group of seven Terran specialist trouble-makers arrange to be captured and sent to a prison planet - the tech of the ship they were captured in was specifically arranged to be old. They were among the first, if not the first, Terrans to be captured by the bad guys. One of them tells some interrogator that there was a pretty girl named Snow White on their ship with them. They get to the prison planet, where they organize a mass prison break-out - there are lots of prisons on the planet, doing work to support the enemy war effort, the prisoners break free and take over the planet - having been promised that they would be recognized as inhabitants of the planet, rather than inhabitants of their old planets. An interesting way to resurrect someone who had been declared dead by their home culture.

Anyone have any idea as to the author and or title? I think it's novella or novel length (for the period), I'm certain I've got a copy, but I can't remember title or author to find it!
