Jul. 12th, 2003 10:49 pmJust ran across in a mailing list:
The Holy War: Mac vs. DOS by Umberto Eco
excerpts are from an English translation of Umberto Eco's back-page column, La bustina di Minerva, in the Italian news weekly Espresso, September 30, 1994.
Yes, it's old - but it's still quite amusing!
Which brought up an interesting point/counterpoint - is Unix/Linux the equivalent of Judaism or US Pentecostal Christians?
On other fronts - very slow day getting started - Irene and I finally started doing stuff about 5PM. First was dinner at Subway, then off to Target to exchange a fan (needed to trade a 20" for something smaller), then Sam's Club for a cream cake (Irene is hosting Ladies Sewing Circle and Terrorist Society Sunday) and the start of mower shopping (our old lawn-mower died - I think it needs a new motor) - then on to Menard's. We found one that we liked there - the Menard's we were at (Richfield) was out of stock, but the one in Eden Prairie had 12 in stock. Run to Eden Prairie, buy a lawn mower. We got a corded electric - smallish yard, Irene does the mowing and doesn't want to deal with gas, we don't mow often enough, so a cordless seems to be problematic in the long run. Oh, and the new mower is mulching, which the old mower wasn't.
Home - Irene is doing accounting stuff (MN Property Tax Refund), I'm getting caught up on e-mail and LJ.
