The DirecTV DVR with Tivo is plugged in and verified working! It has found a local phone number, recorded a program, and has three season tickets set up.
I really do like mine. I've had it for three years or more, and enjoy being able to just go somewhere of an evening without thinking: what do I want to record?
It is also quite nice when I am feeling vegetative, to just turn on the babblebox and see what's been recorded for me.
I find I watch less TV: I only watch when I feel like watching, and if I feel like watching at a time when there's only garbage on, I don't watch the garbage, I look to see if something has been recorded that I haven't seen... And if there isn't, most times I just turn off the set and find something else to do.
Sometimes TV watching becomes a chore, like going through the mail to decide if there is anything worth keeping. But I think that is not too bad a way to approach TV: it means that it is not an escape, and that I really do tend to wander off and do something else instead. Like reading a book, or going for a walk.
Ahhh, Tivo!
