We went to see Paycheck - anyone know what Philip K. Dick story it's based on?

I was trying to come up with a list of Philip K. Dick movie adaptations:

  • Bladerunner

  • Total Recall

  • Minority Report

  • Paycheck

I missed Impostor, and mis-identified AI.

The story is "Paycheck." It's in Vol. 1 of Dick's collected stories from Underwood/Miller (volume title, Beyond Lies the Wub) and was first published in Imagination in June 1953. I liked the film; the story will be my before-sleep reading tonight.

Another PKD movie is Screamers, more a kinda B movie but worth seeing. It's from one of his short stories, I think of the same title.

Oh, oh! And Confessions d'un Barjo, a wonderful French adaptation of Dick's novel Confessions of a Crap Artist!

By the way, don't know if you like Dick's Valis, but this icon, taken from a postcard (with sticker added) in my study, is a reference to his idea of King Felix, the happy or rightful king, in that novel.

I don't know whether those pen names are an obscure fact, or a "check entry" -- like nonexistent small towns on road maps.

"Richard Phillips" does sound like something PKD might make up.
