This week

I've been feeling somewhat low energy recently. Tried to enroll in a Phase IV Blood Pressure Medicine [1] study this week, and may have gotten a hint as to why.

They said, "Not right now"

It seems that my hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell count were all well below the 'normal' range. In particular, either the hemoglobin or the red blood cell was almost exactly half of the max normal value.

So, they told me to contact my physician - which I did. Talked to him Tuesday afternoon, he asked if I was feeling run-down. I commented that that question is practically going to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, but that, yes, I had been feeling on the lower side of my normal energy level for a while. (Irene's later comment was 'You've been feeling run-down for four months!'.) He told me to schedule an office visit within a week - I was in Thursday morning. We talked, there was nothing definitive that we could identify, and he scheduled me for a blood draw for a bunch of tests. He didn't think he'd be getting back to me until Monday, since the tests would come back Friday afternoon at best, and he was out Friday afternoon. Pretty much the expected result.

I just heard from Irene - he left a message on the answering machine. The tests were inconclusive, he wants me to come in for more tests. Surprise, surprise! (he said with vast amounts of sarcasm) Lab visit has been scheduled for 7PM Tuesday.

I rather expect that this is not going to be the last visit to the lab for tests.

[1] - for altruistic and selfish motives - I'm willing to put some energy into being a guinea pig, especially if it doesn't take much time. Getting paid $100 + three months of free high blood pressure meds satisfied the selfish motives nicely.

That's because they can't see the midichlorians that are taking over your bloodstream. Have you levitated any spaceships lately?
