Friend came over for Iron Dragon today - [livejournal.com profile] carbonel, [livejournal.com profile] cakmpls' husband J, Steve B (WINOLJ) and KLJ (WINOLJ). I almost won - I turned in a load in Kola, headed to turn in a load in Killavare that would take me over the top. I drew one of the two disasters that would make me not win that turn - Wizard's Strike. (This has to do with the House Rules on Rainbow Bridge - the Rainbow Bridge between Bluefeld & Octomare comes up when the card is drawn and stays up until either the end of the game, or until the Wizard's Strike card is drawn.) Wizard's Strike meant I no longer had seven major cities. :-( It cost me 41 GP to get reconnected - and that was going to take me about three turns to make back.

Steve won, I think J was headed for second, [livejournal.com profile] carbonel or I would have come in third.

Since I thought I was loosing (as in, dead last) for most of the game, I'm quite happy with the way it turned out! It's a game that I find fun to loose, so I'll play it just about any time.

We love playing this game (and all the other Empire Builder variants). We also have the same Rainbow Bridge house rule. Hey, it was listed that way originally in the Mayfair FAQ, and then they changed their minds. Not our fault if we think it makes a better game the original way.

I've always played Bridge/Strike like that. You mean that's not what the actual rules say?

Hmm...IIRC I *did* check the Mayfair website for FAQ/errata pretty much on first publication of the game. Maybe that's where I got it?

Now I'm curious. Will try to remember to check my ruleset at home in the next few days....
