iraunink & I ran down to Kansas City, MO, this past weekend to see my father and step-mother. The car claims it was running for 13:07, and that we traveled 911.9 miles. We drove down on Friday, and back on Sunday.
iraunink slept for some of the trip down, so I plugged my iPod into the car stereo after Medford Outlets, and we listened to BBC Beethoven Symphonies the rest of the way - we listened to all of 1-8, and the first movement or so of 9.
While we were there, we made it into Kansas for about three minutes - Dad lives about a mile from the border, we went about six blocks along the street that's the border between Missouri and Kansas. Saturday, he took us to the
National WWI Museum.

Date: 2013-07-17 04:04 pm (UTC)The one time I drove through KC, we stopped at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (nlbm.com). Definitely worth a visit, and very close to the American Jazz Museum too (near 18th & Vine). We only had time for the one, alas.

Date: 2013-07-17 05:13 pm (UTC)The WWI Museum reminded me of something I knew, but didn't know - I knew a fair bit about the trench warfare in France, but next to nothing about the rest of the war. They had presentations on the Italian front, Russian front, and Gallipoli. I'm almost tempted to try to find a good overview of the war sometime.
We're planning on going back - but probably in the spring or fall, so the weather is more tolerable. It'll be interesting to see what Dad comes up with for us to see then.
