A quiet and yet productive Saturday

I made waffles with apple pie filling for brunch. Then Irene and Ralph got Irene's room's walls washed today. Now there's the patching of holes and the touch-up painting, then we can start putting furniture (back) in it. I got three loads of laundry done, washed a bunch of pots, and then made dinner - Zatarain's Jambalaya with sausage and ham, and added a sauted onion, a bunch of garlic, some frozen diced green pepper, and a can of mushrooms. Now we're sitting around playing with computers. Oh, yeah - I put together the new bookshelf for behind the couch - the one that's there now is one of the pieces of furniture going back into Irene's room, and she has decided that having a bookshelf the height of the couch behind the couch and face out towards the front door and front hall closet is a good thing. (The existing shelf is part of Irene's desk - we got a plain wood door for free, cut it down to be a desk the size and shape we wanted, and got a bookshelf and two-drawer file cabinet to support it. Works very nicely!)

I may finally get around to testing my Wizard of Speed and Time DVD this evening.

Oh, yeah - Precious is sleeping on the top of the back of the couch, Josie is chewing on something while lying between me and Irene, and Mac is sleeping sprawled out on the other side of me. It's very quiet right now!

Unfortunately, the DVD won't play on my home DVD player - I think the programming is too old.

Are there extras on the Wizard of Speed and Time dvd? It's one of the SO's favorite movies and I was thinking of picking him up a copy. He already has the VHS though, so without at least a couple of extras there may not be much point.

IIUC, this DVD is a pirate off the LaserDisc. Apparently, He Who Shall Be Unnamed (but is one side of an unresolved contract dispute) actually produced it - I've got a blessed second-generation copy. I've actually got five disks - one very high definition encoding that took two disks (if a multi-level burner had been available, it probably would have fit on one), one VHS level encoding that's all on one disk, and two identical sets of 'extras' - four or five things, including three shorts (the original WoSaT short, Animato, the Mickey Mouse special, I forget what else).

Unfortunately, the DVD won't play on my home DVD player - I think the programming is too old. Now I need to test them on my work laptop's DVD player.

I'd really like to get a good copy of Jittlov's short films. The one I have on tape from the ancient PFRC archives isn't holding up too well.

I'll have to hit him up for it at cookie pizza lab at next SEMGS.

Give him some warning. It takes a day or so to get everything burned and printed (assuming the printer doesn't run out of ink, and he's got enough disks and jackets, etc, etc.) (and assuming he remembers -- this is John, after all.)

And have we reached any kind of decision on SEMGS? Did I miss something? ;)

I'm in no huge hurry. I'm just happy with the prospect of taking something that is on heavily decaying VHS recorded from decaying VHS and getting something clean out of it.

As for SEMGS, I think we're still in thrash mode. I believe pizza lab is still the theme, but I'm not sure about the location.
