fireopal.org is now on the backup UPS (which, IIRC, has about 2/3 the battery that the dead one had).

Special to [livejournal.com profile] gomeza - the one that has died is a Belkin F6C625-SER, 625VA, 375W? The one I just plugged in is an APC Back-UPS ES BE500.

And the Windows 'for fun and visitors' box is now on just a surge protector - it was on the APC.

Y'know, it's funny, every time I hear about a Belkin product, it's someone who has had a problem with it. But then, I suppose people don't let everyone know about their products that work fine.

The Back-Ups aren't as good as the Smart-UPS, because the former are aimed at the SOHO market, and the latter are perceived more as professional equipment, but in any case, you could do worse. I haven't seen any reliability ratings in a long time, so I don't know how anybody really stacks up any more.

PS: VA ratings are pretty bogus. If you don't want to toast your batteries the first time the power fails, run at 50% of rated load.

I've never known anyone to have problems with APC products, and I know that they stand by their warranty. Tripp Lite doesn't, and I haven't heard anything good about Belkin UPSs.

I have excessive brand loyalty to APC ever since the lightning incident.
