PSA: fireopal.org Power Cycle Complete
Apr. 16th, 2005 02:39 pmfireopal.org is now on the backup UPS (which, IIRC, has about 2/3 the battery that the dead one had).
Special to
gomeza - the one that has died is a Belkin F6C625-SER, 625VA, 375W? The one I just plugged in is an APC Back-UPS ES BE500.
And the Windows 'for fun and visitors' box is now on just a surge protector - it was on the APC.

Date: 2005-04-17 02:50 am (UTC)The Back-Ups aren't as good as the Smart-UPS, because the former are aimed at the SOHO market, and the latter are perceived more as professional equipment, but in any case, you could do worse. I haven't seen any reliability ratings in a long time, so I don't know how anybody really stacks up any more.
PS: VA ratings are pretty bogus. If you don't want to toast your batteries the first time the power fails, run at 50% of rated load.
