Unemployment Insurance Registration

Since today is technically my last day at McDATA, I can't register with the state unemployment insurance people until Tuesday. I hope the web site it still functioning then!

Scott, To my knowledge and I also did this when I became unemployed. You can register for unemployment the same day....actually after you leave you can register. Sadly, now with the government "shut down", you might not see any benefits because they won't be processing (or will they???). If you got severance, you won't be able to get unemployment until that is completed. You can always register....if the web site is up. Good Luck. Are you going to be at Convergence???

In the Author's Note of _Undead and Unemployed_ by MaryJanice Davidson, which came out in 2004, it says, "However, as of the time of this writing, if you go to a WorkForce Center in Minnesota, they aren't allowed to answer questions about unemployment insurance. And at some centers, you really aren't allowed to use their phones to call someone who can. Honest."

This sounds dire. I hope you have better luck dealing with the bureaucracy than this seems to indicate.
