I know little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. I've read your user info, or we have something else in common. Some of you I know a little and look forward to getting to know over time.

I'd love it if every single person on my friends list would volunteer a personal nugget of information that might be evidence of a defining trait. Yes, even those people who think I know them reasonably well. Then post this in your own journal if you like.

I don't think there's anything about me you couldn't glean from my own lj, but: I'm an incurable romantic.

I suspect that I'm pretty much a walking collection of "defining traits", many of which you know about already. One you might not know is that I played the cello in high school, and still have a cello tucked away at my mom's place. I have irrational fantasies of "picking it up again someday"... assuming I don't go completely deaf first. :-(

I'm incredibly unobservant. It takes -several- big bricks to get my attention.

I've worn the same style and color of hat for over 30 years.

In school I liked to make up really long random numbers and then divide them down into their components, ending up with answers like 2 to the 27th x 3 to the 5th x 7 or some such. Teachers thought I was taking notes, so I didn't get in trouble, and it kept me from being bored.

You too? (I'd also draw large polygons and then put in all their diagonals, making a gemlike picture. Or I'd take a number, add up its divisors, and repeat until it either petered out (to 1) or started to cycle. Or...)

Wait... other people did that? Give me graph paper, a black pen, and a little bendy ruler (can't draw a reasonably straight line to save my life), and I'll happily divide up octagons along their diagonals to this day.

And when I had made a nice pattern, I'd color them in. They looked pleasingly mind-altering by the time I was done with them. I know I saved a few of the better ones... wonder where they are now...

I toyed with mazes, but nothing ever came of that.

I used to factor random numbers in my calculator. I guess I wasn't a real mathematician, though, since I operated on the rule that a zero was a blank into which I could insert something, so 47085920 could become 47185920, which could be divided by three twice, leading to 15728640 and 5242880, and so forth.

There is a part of my brain that factors all numbers it sees, on autopilot. License plates, everything.

I would write journal entries, after my crocheting got frowned upon too much.

I am really, hopelessly naive.

I will, when feeling particularly chipper, take the devil's advocate position and argue back at someone, just for the fun of it, even if I agree with them.

I am ridiculously hopelessly head-over-heels in love, quite possibly for the first time.

For at least half of grade school, my younger sister and I had the same best friend, and all three of us went almost everywhere together.

I'm hopelessly pedantic

...which apparently makes me an ideal Wikipedian.

Also I'm almost constitutionally incapable of using just one word when fifty or so will suffice.

Unless you ask me to write something creative, in which case my inner muse takes a quick cig-break (which is odd because I don't smoke) while I crumble with embarrassment.

Did I mention I tend to ramble and go all whimsical under pressure?

When I am stressed, I read science fiction. When I am happy, I read nonfiction. When I don't know enough about something - I ask people for recommendations. Then I read.
