The second one's almost equally obvious: Schiller's Ode to Joy (presumably as put to music in Beethoven's Ninth). Of course, it's kind of cheating to start with a song that was written in German in the first place!

Yes and no - I actually started with an English translation! One that I found on-line that had been modified to make the rhymes work out better.
