is starting relatively slowly - I got up about 8:00, let the dogs out, and made breakfast for Irene. Then I made breakfast for me, and then did the final prep work for the dinner's main dish. [livejournal.com profile] kosmickitten finally got around to asking what we were having, so -

Menu:
Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Potato Salads
Fresh Veggies and Dip
Stir-Fried Green Beans with lots of garlic
Baker's Square Pies (provided by [livejournal.com profile] kosmickitten & [livejournal.com profile] bernesemntdog
Turkey Cake (a round cake decorated to look like a turkey)

I'm not certain I can claim the Pulled Pork is less work than a turkey. Saturday evening I put a Pork Loin Shoulder in the crockpot with some onions, garlic, and a bottle of barbecue sauce. I let it cook until about noon Sunday - it was definitely falling off the bone! Took it out of the crockpot, put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. After it was cool enough to handle, I shredded the pork, covered it well, and put it back in the refrigerator. I took all the juice (including the garlic and onion bits), and boiled it on the stove, reducing it about 50%. This morning, I put the pork back in the crockpot, and heated the pot of gelatinous goo until it turned back into juice - I added another jar of barbecue sauce at that point. Poured the juice over the pork, stirred well, set on high for an hour or so, then turned it down to low.

[livejournal.com profile] kosmickitten & [livejournal.com profile] bernesemntdog should be showing up 2ish. Monica, Flavin and Jake are all maybe stopping by sometime this afternoon or evening. We're having a low-key Thanksgiving!
