On - and fresh sweet-corn cooked in the microwave for an appetizer. 2 minutes/ear, trim the tops off before you put them in. You don't husk them until after they come out of the microwave.

How do you get all the silk off the ear without burning your hands?

You actually wait 3-5 minutes before removing the husk & silk. Or however long it takes to cool enough to handle. I cooked three, we got about half the leaves off and then let them rest for a minute or so, then took the rest of the leaves off, and most of the silk came off with the last of the leaves. The two that I cooked for the second round - which finished cooking while we were eating the first three - were take of half the leaves, let stand for 20-30 seconds for steam to escape / cooling, then take the rest of the leaves and the silk off.
