were foodie days.

Tuesday night after I went to bed, [livejournal.com profile] iraunink took all the Brandywine tomatoes (from our four tomato plants) and cut them up, tossing out the bad parts.

Wednesday, I sauteed three onions and some garlic, added some Savory and Italian Seasoning, and then dumped in about seven quarts of tomato chunks. Then I tossed in about a cup and a half (maybe more) of fresh sweet basil (again from our back yard). Got it up to boiling, hit it with the potato masher, and turned it down low to simmer for about eight hours.

Today, I got turkey meatballs from Trader Joe's, boiled up some radiatore pasta, add the tomato sauce to the turkey meatballs along with with a couple of cans of mushrooms, and we had dinner. Topped the pasta off with freshly grated parmesan - it was good stuff!

Also, I got a new 12" frying pan today from Nordicware.

Also from Trader Joe's I also got two bottles of Three Buck Chuck (two different varieties of white) and one bottle of Old Moon [Old Vine] Zinfandel 2005 (which went nicely with the pasta). And some dark chocolate.

The Charles Shaw wine is definitely worth the price--actually it's worth far more than the price. We buy it by the case and keep it around the house for cooking and drinking.

Ah, tomato season!

Trader Joe's is one of the businesses that helps me maintain some degree of confidence in the capitalist system. Good stuff, lots of it, not expensive, and you never hear about it on teevee commercials.
