Anyone want some flax?

We're going to have flax in the front yard this year. Given that iraunink is going to take the seeds and cast them upon the ground, we're likely to have more next year. As we understand it, this is the stuff you can use to make linen thread.

Anyone want some? Anyone know of someone who'd like some?

It a bit late to plant it? It's spectacular as a whole field blooming in the morning -- you'd swear it was a lake.

She's taking this year's seed production and sowing it so as to have more next year. We're interested in having a long-term disposal solution.

If you don't find someone close to you, I might. How much will you have? Do you know the name of the flax plant? I'll need to check something about the process of making linen thread - to see if would work if you shipped it to me. you're back east aren't you?

We're in the Upper MidWest - Minneapolis, MN - Lois McMaster Bujold's current home base.

I'm not certain the exact variety - my wife just refers to it as 'flax'. I think it's Linum perenne lewisii - check out these images at Google - http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Linum+perenne&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

This year it'll be ... maybe a couple of yards of stalks? I don't think it'll be any more than ten yards. I can check with my wife when I get home this evening.

Oh, I was off - there are 6 biggish plants (2-3' feet tall, 10+ stalks per plant), and one smaller (~1.5' tall, about 5 stalks).
