Not a happy several days
Feb. 11th, 2008 11:55 amAs I posted earlier, I slipped and fell last Thursday, spent three hours in the Emergency Room, and got sent home with a diagnosis of pulled muscle/soft tissue injury.
Well, life hasn't been terribly cooperative.
I got up early Friday morning (late Thursday night?) to go to the bathroom, and had a coughing jag. The available information says I fainted and slumped to the floor - there are some signs that there was some control, I didn't (as far as I can tell) make the back any worse.
As of sometime Saturday, I started using a cane instead of crutches - this was a distinct improvement! However, I still can't spend more than 30-40 minutes in a sitting position - laying in bed has been my most common position. I can stand up straight reasonably well - I'm mostly using the cane to get to standing and from standing to sitting. Standing to bed is mostly done by controlled falling. I have to stand straight - no bending either forward or side-to-side. If I get a little bit off of vertical, the pain starts shooting up quickly.
I was supposed to work 4.5 hours on Friday, 11.5 hours (a full day) on Sunday, and full days today, tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm currently stretched out in bed typing on my laptop, with an appointment to see my doctor at 3PM today. I don't think I'm going to make it in to work this week. My boss is going to be sending the Short-Term Disability info - I hope to have it in time to take with me to the doctor.
I'm still in pretty bad shape if I don't get my hydrocodone every five hours - the big difference between having it and not having it is being able to transition between standing/sitting/lying down states without screaming. In other words, it's not doing much for the low-level pain I can feel right now as I'm lying here typing, but it chops the top off from the transition states.
