OK, the Strib IS in trouble!

Not that I'd doubted any of the reports, but I just got a phone call from them.

We've been getting the Saturday & Sunday Star Tribune for ... five years? Maybe seven? now. We had a three month 'free week-day with week-end' last year sometime.

Earlier this afternoon they called to offer a change in our subscription. $2.49/week (down from $2.60), guaranteed not to go up for life (but I've only got their verbal word on it, and I wasn't recording the call), for seven daily papers.

They're really desperate for subscribers!

Yeah. The last time I re-upped, I was going to pay for the few weeks since my sub ran out by including it in a six month sub. She interrupted me to have a different payment method: The few weeks I owed plus a year sub for less than the previous price of a six month sub. That's all seven days. Yeah, they're desperate.

But at least they have good comics and a cryptoquip.

No, desperate is when the Dayton paper delivers to us even though we're NOT subscribers. Happens for a few months at a time every year or so.
