ZipCar is sponsoring a Low Car Diet.

Get ready to trim down with the Low-Car Diet Challenge! That is, trim down expenses, pollution, and congestion. With gas prices at an all-time high, it's a great time to start.

Here's how it works. You agree to keep your car keys in your junk drawer for just one month, from July 21st through August 15th. In return, you get a loaded public transit pass, a free 1-year Zipcar membership, some driving time and more goodies that we'll tell you about a little later.

alas, I can't much do that from where I live, however I have bought a bike to use for errands and the like when I am NOT at work and it is good exercise too.

I've also discovered the joy of doing stuff around the house or taking my dog to the neighbours to play instead of hte dog park. Yay at home fun! I used to worry about not having many friends in town near me. Now it doesn't matter because I can't afford to drive to see them!

I'm starting school in the fall and while I need to drive to the train station, I can take the train to it, which reduces my driving from potentially 20 miles to about 6.

hourcar is much closer to me, so I wouldn't, but you could just call and ask. "I don't drive anyway. Can I still get the goodies?"
