On the technical side, one thing many people will like is that they have split the concepts of 'people I want to read' and 'people I want to let read all my posts'. They're also looking at the LJ code and doing ground-up evaluation and possible re-write.
On the business side, they have plans to never go public / seek venture capital / whatever. Their business model is similar to Craigslist - they want to make enough to support themselves (two people) and a handful of employees. This makes them more resistant to some of the stupid things that LJ did, apparently because they were concerned about possible bad publicity. They're also explicitly fanfic & fandom friendly.
I have friends who have faith in the two owners. I have faith in them. So, I guess I have more faith in Dreamwidth surviving as a place for my friends to hang out than LJ. So, I'm going to preserve my place on both.
