An interesting morning event

I went to let the dogs out this morning, and was surprised by the animal about 8' away from my back door (but in the next door neighbor's yard).

I surprised a wild turkey hen. I couldn't believe it - I called for Irene (who, wonder of wonders, just happened to be up and going out the door with me this morning!), who identified it as a hen instead of a tom.

I live in an urban mostly-single-family-housing environment. I a long way from anything I think of as "wild". Minnehaha Creek at about 3 miles south is the closest that I can think of. I see squirrels pretty frequently, and the occasional rabbit. But a full-grown wild turkey?

I'm going to be doing that for the next day or two - "a full-grown wild turkey?!?!"

I saw a phesant in the grass on the side of I94 day before yesterday. What was even stranger was about two years ago, my family was out for a walk about two in the afternoon, a deer came out of someone's backyard and took off down the street. This was a good two miles from the minnesota river valley.
