So, if you were a rich pulp hero in the 1920's, what would you use for your kit?

The hero in question has a strong mystic bent, and a country estate. So far, he's got a touring car, journal, pencil, pen, flashlight, magnifying glass. In the car he keeps a metal-shod ironwood quarterstaff.

What would you think a hero should carry on his person? And what should be in the boot of the car?

Lockpick. An axe (to better smash up the bootleggers).

What does Doc Savage travel with?

Camera. Possibly a portable darkroom in the car, definately a professional darkroom at home.

If he's rich enough, a professional photographer to do all the actual work while he takes the credit.

*grin*

Ridiculously overpowered GMNPC.

But at least he's--nominally--taking orders from one of the PCs.

Firearms; at least rifle and pistols, but probably a shotgun too. He could have a Thompson sub-machinegun, for that matter (I mean the dates make it possible), but not too many people ever learned how to use them effectively (other than as terror weapons, spraying nearly at random).

A 20s pulp hero pretty much has to either have at least a pistol on his person at all times, or else have a special reason not to.

A grandfather clock that chimes loudly on the quarter hour

A large uncooperative cat that's in heat

At least five pounds of extremely fragrant limburger cheese

An anvil

Signed,

Your ever helpful GM

Chalk, a piece of string, and a silver knife (failing the last, a pocket knife will do).

Don't forget the vade mecum. See Sayers' _Whose Body?_; iirc, it's a walking stick with measurements marked on it, & a compass built-in. If the handle's big enough, you might also get a pistol built in.

Monocle with optional lenses for both micro- & macro-viewing.

Techwise, think of a steampunk Batman.
