Thunderstorms

I have a love / hate relationship with thunderstorms. I love them; Mac, and to a lesser degree Josie, hates them.

This means that overnight thunderstorms cause insomnia - Mac paces! And I hear the click-click-click of toenails on the hardwood floor, and I wake up. And then can't fall back to sleep until he stops pacing.

It doesn't help to pick him up - he doesn't like to cuddle, and doesn't have the 'curl up against the human for protection' mentality. If I pick him, I can pet him and make soothing noises - but the moment I stop, he jumps back down to the floor and starts pacing again.

I love my dogs - but I admit there are times when they are a trial!

My german, McCoy hates thunderstorms too. Either we didn't ge thunder down in bloomington, or I was tired enough to sleep through his restlessness...

Morgan (our sheltie) only paces during the day and sleeps like a log at night. I know this because when I go to bed after Erin does, I usually have to remove a sleeping dog from my side of the bed. He then manages to sleepwalk over to his own bed on the floor, thankfully.
