Anyone have a copy of the CD "Carillon of the Belfry of Ghent"? Amazon has 5 used copies, running from $78.99 to %149.95. Way too rich for my blood! There's one track that I really want - "18. The Flight of the Bumble Bee, musical picture for orchestra (from The Tale of Tsar Saltan)" - that's a whole 1:51 long. It is, I admit, a good bet I'd enjoy other tracks.

Sorry I can't help you with the bells, but do you mind if I steal your userpic? I have one left of my six allowed and that one looks really useful!!

Is there a particular reason you need the track from that particular CD instead of another version of it?

The Tale of Tsar Saltan as an opera is very rarely performed in the US (although that piece is quite popular. In fact, after its debut in the first decade of the 1900s, the only other time it was performed in the US was in 1987 at Indiana University. Elaine and I had the pleasure(?) of seeing it.

It is the only time I've ever nearly fallen asleep at an opera. It was dull. It was also being stereo simulcast (in part because of its rarity). During "The Flight of the Bumblebee" a bee is flying around the stage. The announcer on the radio apparently had to explain "The reason you hear laughter is that there is a foot long bumblebee flying around the stage and dropping on the actors' heads when it is meant to sting them." A pantomime bumblebee would have worked better.

Yeah, I realized that as I was posting.

Have you tried seeing if it was available from any libraries through Worldcat (http://www.worldcat.org) (checks to look)...I see copies in libraries in Madison, WI and Ames, IA. Perhaps Interlibrary loan could get one for you.

The jazz pianist Rob Rio has a boogie-woogie version of Flight on a couple of albums. I have it from "Rob Rio - Gold" and it's one of my favorite tracks! Mr. Rio was a performer at the Roswell Jazz Festival last year and far and away the hit of the Festival--he's absolutely brilliant, plus being a really nice fellow. His website has a sample of Bumble Boogie: www.robrio.com
