No, not mine!

My neighbor is moving. His floor plan is very similar to mine - three bedrooms and a bath on the second floor, living room, dining room, kitchen and entry on the main floor. Three season front porch - they have meals out there frequently - that's instead of my sunroom. They also don't have the first floor bathroom that I have, so it's three bedrooms and one bathroom. I don't know what he's asking yet - I may find out Monday - but I'm expecting $200,000 to $250,000.

Anyone interested?

If you lived in Columbia, MD instead of Minneapolis, I'd be *very* interested. As it is, that barely buys a 2-bedroom condo around here...

$ ! $ ! $ ! ! !

These housing prices make my teeth ache!

What that kind of money would buy here, just two doors down from me:

"Modern Victorian" (kind of a mis-match with the rest of the neighborhood stylistically, but whatever). Three stories, 3800 sq.ft., five bedrooms, 4.5 baths, at least two fireplaces, 360-degree porch/veranda, 3 car garage, 20'x40' pool, on a 1.5 acre lot.

According to Sunday's newspaper, it's down from $295,000 to $275,000. It's been listed for an awfully long time, though; probably near a year, IIRC. Not an easy sell, that much house and (pardon me, but here in the hinterlands, it's true) that much money. Was probably not a wise build to begin with, since in this neighborhood, the average price is around $150-160K, so it's more than somewhat over the top that way.

Still... dang, people! How in the ever-loving can you buy anything at those prices?!?

Nahhh. Around here, we simply don't see that kind of huge, runaway appreciation. Which stability is probably the reason we have such enormously lower housing costs.

I guess I wouldn't trade--my present house would've been entirely unaffordable under the circumstances that you have. As it is, it's only kinda, sorta, barely, by the skin of my teeth affordable! Heh.

$295,000 would get my parent's old house (recently sold). Built in the mid-sixties, three story split-level, with 1 full bath and two showers, five bedrooms, full kitchen, dining room, living room w/cathedral ceiling, family room, unfinished basement, and a garage, on a quarter-acre of land.

For that amout of money, they were barely able to purchase a three bedroom rancher (one of three attached houses), with a living room, dining room, and small sun porch, with a postage stamp piece of land, in a senior development community in the same area.

It's just nuts around here. My own place has gone from about $105,000 to $135,000 in the space of seven years, and it's just a dinky little townhouse.

You have a first floor bathroom?

K. [my kids would love a house like that, but it's a little beyond their reach at present]

Same house in New Richmond goes for $125K to $150K, FYI. There's a nice one across the street for sale asking $141K right now. Yes, the commute sucks. But it's a nice town.

Can I get that sent motor freight? I'm about ready to dynamite mine.
