Speaking of cars...

For the last several days the ventilation system on our car has been producing a strong, and increasingly irritating, odor. Yesterday, it added two features - no combination of settings would defrost the window (tried pure hot, pure A/C, and max heat w/ A/C on) - they all made it worse; and it would occasionally produce either a white fog, or a very fine white smoke.

Turns out that the heating system sprung a leak. Irene took it in to be diagnosed - they opened a panel in the dashboard, and out came a large quantity of fluid. They've but in a bypass, we have no heat in the car until it's fixed. We may or may not have A/C.

This is probably the best time of the year to have this problem.

It goes in to be fixed on Tuesday - ~$600 and four hours to repair, they have to remove the dashboard.

Ouch. That's a chunk of change. I'm sorry to hear it, but you're right about this being the best time of year for it.
