sraun: WTF? (wtf)

I just ordered three David Weber hard-covers from Amazon - A Rising Thunder (currently available from Baen), War Maid's Choice (estimated release early July from Baen), and Midst Toil and Tribulation (estimated release early September from Tor). I chose the SuperSaver shipping, knowing that it would probably delay A Rising Thunder.

Here's how they are grouping the shipments:

Delivery estimate: Sept. 24, 2012 - Sept. 28, 2012
"Midst Toil and Tribulation (Safehold)"
"A Rising Thunder (Honor Harrington)"

Delivery estimate: July 10, 2012 - July 16, 2012
"War Maid's Choice: N/A (The Bahzell)"

I looked at this, and went "What?". I just talked to a customer service rep - he said it is because of which facility A Rising Thunder is currently available at, and which facilities War Maid's Choice and Midst Toil and Tribulation are ordered for. I looked at this and declared it insane - they are going to hold a copy of a book at facility A for nearly six months!

You might check back in a couple of days; admittedly, I wasn't dealing with the 'delayed release' issue, but they gave me similarly ludicrous delivery dates for a recent order, and a couple days later they had re-resolved into far more credible dates, without my having to do anything at all. No idea why they were making two-month-out delivery estimates for things they had *in stock* on normal shipping, but I actually got stuff in about 10 days.
