What a week

sraunIt was a long week as of about 10AM this morning - three of the seven people in my department called in sick this morning, and a fourth was already out on vacation all week!
It's been 'run around frantically' (at least metaphorically) all day.
The heater in the car got fixed yesterday. Irene picked me up after work, and we started off to run an errand on the way home. Got on the freeway, and noticed two small problems - first, the speedometer seemed to be stuck on a peg - specifically, the Zero peg. Second, the odometers (standard and trip) were both not rolling over. Oops. Did my best to go the common speed - fortunately, we didn't go onto any roads where there weren't at least three or four cars within sight going my way - that got us home safely (and we even got our errand run!)
The errand was comparison shopping (and purchasing!) for Katie's Graduation Party Sunday. We stopped at Sam's Club to see how much they wanted for various party supplies - we'll end up running to Cub or Rainbow for the sliced cheese, but we got turkey, snacking nuts and plastic plates at Sam's.
Called the service station when they opened this morning, they said, "Bring it right in and we'll fix it!" Irene drove me to work again (two days in a row!), and took it in - took them about an hour.
Latest theory is that after work today we swing by a Best Buy to pick up some upgrades for the home Linux box - we're going to add a CD-ROM burner and a 120GB hard-drive. Now all I have to do is figure out when I'm going to get a chance to install the new toys!
