Minneapolis has declared a Snow Emergency starting at 9PM tonight. In practice, that means I can't park in front of my house from 8AM tomorrow until 8PM or the street is "fully plowed to the curb" (1), whichever comes first - an interesting condition, given that after the last big snowfall they didn't declare a Snow Emergency. I don't expect to see the curb on my street until spring. Since I'm working 7AM-7PM tomorrow, and will get home about 7:30PM, I'm off the hook for 'moving in time to not be towed', and I think I'll be safe to park in front of my house when I get home from work. On Christmas Day, there will be no parking across the street from me - so when I get home from work about 3:30, I'll be just fine to park in front of my house.

I do like it when the City is so nice as to tell me I can't park in front of my house when I'm already planning to not be there.

1 - The City of Minneapolis web site says "After a street is fully plowed to the curb, feel free to park there, even if Snow Emergency parking rules are still in effect. Fully plowed means the street is completely cleared and plowed to the curb. Plows may come through more than once, so make sure that it is fully plowed to the curb before parking." Any emphasis is theirs.
