I don't think it shows up here, but my guess will be also May Day / Bealtaine

Usually when Google has a special logo up, clicking on it will bring up an explanation. When I tried today, I got a page "Introducing artist themes for iGoogle (http://www.google.com/help/ig/art/index.html#name=koons)."

So, it appears that today it is their own advertising instead of honoring some past or current event.

Click on it.

Looks like it's an introduction to the idea of "artist themes" for iGoogle.

Google-fu for the win!

Hovering over the image gives a tooltip of "By Jeff Koons." Googling Jeff Koons gets his wikipedia page, which explains that he's an American artist and includes:

He rendered a drawing similar to his famous "Tulip Balloons" for placement on the front page of the Internet search engine Google. The drawing greeted all who visited Google's main page on April 30, 2008 (that day being Queen's Day in the Netherlands).

I wonder if it is merely coincidence or plan that Queen's Day in the Netherlands is on May Eve/Beltaine?

. . . I would have thought Beltane, but -- ??? a bouquet of rounded-rectangle metallic balloons on metallic sticks?

Maybe it's to do with their new "artists' themes" thing.

Metallic tulips for the Netherland's Queen's Day, apparently. Plus tie-in to the artists' themes thing, of course.

Ummm, I don't see anything different from their normal icon. Can someone grab the image and post it?

Thanks. I don't see that at all. Mind you, if I enter www.google.com it takes me to www.google.ca automatically. I can then click on a link for google.com. But no fancy logo!
