Looks like the system hard drive died.

I wasn't anywhere near the 35W bridge collapse - I was at work. In particular, I was on a conference call about a mainframe problem - my boss was on the call from his home, and commented about it. I went and found the live helicopter feed from the local Fox channel website and proceeded to watch it and listen the mainframe chatter for the next hour.
